The categories opendata.fi uses have now been updated and almost all open data datasets have been added to at least one category. We will categorise the rest of the open data datasets during the summer, but you can also edit the categories of your own datasets yourself. Remember that the datasets can belong to multiple categories. Datasets that belong to interoperability tools have not been categorised.
We are using a slightly modified version of the European Data Portal’s (EDP) open data categories. There are a total of 16 categories:
- Regions & Cities
- Energy
- Government & Public Sector
- International Issues
- Education & Sports
- Culture, Arts & Free Time
- Transport
- Agriculture, Fisheries, Forestry & Foods
- Tourism & Travel
- Justice, Legal System & Public Safety
- Built-up Areas & Infrastructure
- Economy & Finance
- Health
- Science & Technology
- Population & Society
- Environment & Nature
For more detailed descriptions of the categories, see the page Dataset Categories. The page also includes examples of datasets that would belong to each category.
Please check the categories we have given your datasets. You can view the categories from the Categories tab on the dataset’s page. If you do not agree with the categorisation, you can edit the categories by selecting the suitable categories.
The categories make finding data easier. The front page shows how many datasets belong to each category, and you can browse the datasets in each category. Additionally, the categories can be used to filter the search results when using the advanced search. Because the categories we use are similar to the EDP uses, the datasets will also have the correct categories on EDP’s website.
If you have any questions or comments regarding the categories, you can contact the website administrators using our contact form. You can also contact us on Twitter @avoindatafi.
